Full-Time Replacement position (35 Hours per week)

Duties

Under the authority of the director, the cook provides food services in the childcare centre in accordance with the centre’s philosophy and policies.

Tasks 

Planning of meals

• Oversee the management of the food services for the centre

• Plan well-balanced and economical menus, according to the Canada Food Guide (and, if applicable, the Native Food Guide)

• Seek advice and comments of colleagues and the director regarding menus and recipes, and take them into account

• Rotate menus on a monthly basis

• Display menus ahead of time and keep them on file

• Consider the special needs of some children in the planning of menus and preparation of meals.

Preparation of meals and snacks

• Prepare lunches as well as morning and afternoon snacks, according to the Centre’s schedule 

• Present foods creatively, so that children are keen to try them

• Ensure that allergy-causing foods are not in contact with foods served to allergic children

• Help personnel serve food to children

Purchasing and stock management

• Identify food requirements and make necessary purchases according to budget: keep an up-to- date inventory

• Ensure high quality, proper storage and turnover of food-stuffs

•Use food in inventory and minimize waste and loss

• Make regular contacts with suppliers in order to ensure that quality product purchases are made at the lowest prices

• Check all orders received and bring packing slips to the director

Location:   Natturaq childcare Centre, Inukjuak, Quebec

Salary:        To Be determined depending on experience.
