BARGE CO-CAPTAIN

TEMPORARY FULL-TIME POSITION

 

Location: Inukjuak, QC

 

The Pituvik Landholding Corporation of Inukjuak is seeking a Barge Co-Captain, responsible for a number of tasks, including piloting the vessel, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, and maintaining the barge's operational readiness.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

-         Navigate the barge safely through various waterways;

-         Ensure efficient operations;

-         Oversee cargo loading and unloading processes;

-         Maintain compliance with maritime laws and regulations;

-         Ensure the safety and security of the vessel and its passengers;

-         Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of the barge;

-         Keep thorough and accurate records of the barge's operations;

-         Ensure proper communication and reporting during voyages;

-         Respond to emergencies and handle any unexpected situations;

-         Manage fuel consumption and other logistical aspects.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

-         Small Vessel Operator Proficiency;

-         Marine Emergency Duties (MED) Training;

-         Class 5 drivers license or territorial;

-         Relevant experience in marine navigation and operations;

-         Strong understanding of maritime laws and regulations;

-         Proficiency in using marine navigation systems and tools;

-         Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities;

-         Demonstrated ability to handle emergency situations effectively;

-         Experience with cargo handling and logistics;

-         Completion of relevant maritime training programs;

-         Physical fitness to handle demanding tasks on board;

-         Ability to accommodate flexible schedules;

-         Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures;

-         Good record-keeping and documentation skills;

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

-         Temporary full-time position, 45 days a year, 8 hours a day;

-         $56.00/hour, with cargo benefits $700.00 and northern living benefits $3,000.00;
