FUNCTION & DUTIES:
Collaborates with a variety of staff members in applying special education techniques in programs for students with behavioral difficulties.
DUTIES:
• Participate in the development of programs and organizes and leads student activities for the students who are assigned to him/her;
• Apply and adapt techniques and methods in the care, supervision, group activities, recreation and other aspects of education of the students under his or her responsibility;
• Help and counsel students, study their behavior and prepare progress reports;
• Participate in case studies and in meetings of the local special education committee;
• Collaborate in evaluating results and in determining corrective actions to be taken;
• Participate in the regular evaluation sessions to give feedback concerning the students’ progress to other staff members and to the parents of the child;
• Help students who are not attending due to behavior problems to reintegrate into the regular class to the appropriate degree;
• May be required to train and coordinate other support staff employees;
• If need be, he or she performs any other related tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
College diploma in social work or an attestation of studies and/or experience which is recognized as equivalent by the School Board.
The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Previous experience working with youth with adjustment or learning difficulties;
• Fluency in two of the following languages: Inuktitut, English or French.
WORK SCHEDULE: 35 hours per week
