JOB OPPORTUNITY

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) is a supra-municipal body having jurisdiction over the territory north of the 55th parallel in Québec and, in particular, provides technical assistance to the 14 northern villages of Nunavik.

The KRG Municipal Public Works Department is responsible for the management of infrastructure projects for the northern villages, as well as for the preventive and corrective maintenance of more than 200 KRG residential and institutional buildings throughout the region (staff housing, offices, airport buildings and police stations). It also provides technical assistance to the Northern Villages for the maintenance of some municipal infrastructure (drinking water treatment plants, community centres, arenas, swimming pools, etc.) and to childcare centres around the region.

The KRG is currently looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to fill the following position:

Building Inspector

(Permanent full-time position, on a rotational basis)

Reporting to the Assistant Director - Maintenance of the Department, the Building Inspector duties include in particular:

• Review the plans and specifications of the buildings to be inspected;

• Inform occupants at least 24 hours before the inspection of their unit.

• Prepare a specific level 1 building inspection plan tailored to the building type to be inspected;

• Assesses the conditions of the building’s various components (structure, architecture, mechanical and electrical), identify the causes of deficiencies, evaluates the scope of repairs, makes appropriate corrective recommendations and estimates costs;

• Immediately inform the Assistant Director of any situations that may affect the health or safety of occupants or the integrity of the building;

• Enter inspection data into the computerized database;

• Produce the necessary reports and statistics;

• When more complex technical issues arise, prepare requests for offer of services from specialized firms who will carry out further higher-level inspections;

• Perform any other related duties requested by his supervisor.

The selected candidate must:

• Possess a college studies diploma in a related field: architecture, engineering, building mechanics, , etc. (Relevant work experience will also be considered);

• Have at least five years of relevant work experience;

• Be able to communicate, verbally and in writing, in at least two of the following languages: Inuktitut, English or French (A working knowledge of Inuktitut is a definite asset);

• Possess practical computer skills and expertise in preventive maintenance systems. Proficiency in MS Office. Knowledge of work order and preventive maintenance software will be considered an asset;

• Possess good communication skills, used in interrelations with clients and in the day-to-day conversations that build relationships with one’s co-workers.

• Be available to travel in Nunavik;

• Demonstrate flexibility and resourcefulness and enjoy teamwork; intercultural awareness;

• Be capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines.

• Experience working north of the 55th parallel is an asset.

Work schedule and location: six weeks’ work in Northern villages, followed by three weeks’ paid vacation (52.5 hours per week);

OR

Work schedule and location: four weeks’ work in Northern villages, followed by two weeks’ paid vacation (52.5 hours per week).

Place of work: Nunavik, Québec.

Salary: Min. $63,716 - Max. $109,329 a year (Class 10)
