Building Maintenance Technician (HVAC) - KRG

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supramunicipal organization with jurisdiction over Quebec territory north of the 55th parallel, provides technical assistance to Nunavik’s 14 Northern villages.
The KRG’s Municipal Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining the organization’s buildings (offices, police stations, airports, employee housing, etc.) and providing technical assistance to the 14 Northern villages for the operation and maintenance of recreational buildings (arenas, swimming pools, gymnasiums, and community centres).
To carry out the tasks related to the above responsibilities, KRG is currently seeking an individual to fill the following position:
BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - HVAC
(Permanent full-time position, on a rotational basis)
Reporting to the Building Maintenance Section Coordinator, the Building/HVAC and Controls Technician performs specialized and semi-specialized duties related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of oil heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems.
DUTIES:
- Carry out maintenance and repairs to KRG buildings in Kuujjuaq in particular, and in the 13 Northern villages;
- Diagnose problems, provide repair solutions, and draw up parts order lists;
- Carry out daily inspections and repairs on equipment and produce reports;
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on oil heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation systems;
- Install new equipment or modify existing systems;
- Ensure that all installations, repairs, and maintenance activities comply with applicable code requirements;
- Respond to emergency calls;
- Carry out general maintenance and repairs to sanitary facilities in buildings;
- Perform any other duties as requested by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Holds an HVAC certificate;
- Holds a valid Class 5 driver’s licence;
- Has five years’ relevant experience in building systems and oil HVAC maintenance;
- Able to read drawings and schematics;
- Possesses oral and written communication skills in at least two of the following languages: Inuktitut, English, and French;
- Able to plan work and meet deadlines;
- Able to make operational decisions in emergency situations;
- Able to use IT tools;
- Demonstrates professionalism;
- Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Willing to travel to Nunavik and live in shared facilities;
- A reliable self-starter with a strong sense of initiative.
- Experience working north of the 55th parallel is an asset.
- Electrical certification is an asset.
Work schedule and location: six weeks’ work in Northern villages, followed by three weeks’ paid vacation (52.5 hours per week);
OR
Work schedule and location: four weeks’ work in Northern villages, followed by two weeks’ paid vacation (52.5 hours per week).
Work location: Nunavik
Salary: Minimum of $51,077 and maximum of $86,867 per year (class 8).
Benefits: Paid accommodation when working in Northern villages, meals and incidentals when travelling in Nunavik;
Simplified pension plan: 6% by employer, 4% by employee;

Vacation: 20 days;
Public holidays: 20 days, including 10 during the holiday season.
