The Nunavik Police Service requires the services of a Search and Rescue Coordinator. This position will be on a loan of service to the Department of Civil Security.
The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supra municipal body with jurisdiction over the territory located north of the 55th parallel, is now looking for a self-motivated and dynamic individual interested in joining the KRG to work in the capacity of:
CIVIL SECURITY COORDINATOR: SEARCH AND RESCUE
Temporary, Full-Time (two-year contract with possibility of renewal)
Under the supervision of the Director of Civil Security, the Civil Security Coordinator – Search and Rescue (SAR) is responsible for coordinating, and managing search and rescue operations throughout Nunavik. SAR planning includes coordination with multiple agencies, risk assessment, and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of rescue teams during emergency and non-emergency operations.
DUTIES
• In close collaboration with the director, act as a liaison on all Nunavik SAR related matters with municipal, regional, provincial, federal and other strategic partners
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee search and rescue operations in accordance with established protocols and legal frameworks
• Lead and coordinate the local SAR governance committee’s oversight of local Nunavik SAR approved procedures
• Lead and deliver recurring training of local SAR coordinators and SAR team members, in accordance with approved procedures
• Develop search strategies, action plans, and resource deployment plans
• Liaise with emergency services, law enforcement, military units including Canadian Rangers, nongovernmental organizations, and volunteer organizations
• Act as regional coordinator for all Nunavik SAR activities
• Maintain operational expertise, situational awareness, and decision-making during incidents
• Ensure safety procedures and risk management practices are followed
• Monitor and document operational activities, resource utilization, and resulting outcomes
• Prepare incident reports, debriefings, and post-operation evaluations
• Maintain a SAR reporting system including a database of current and past events within departmental administration section for all municipal and regional SAR events
• Assess training needs, support and recommend the development of materials, help design and coordinate the delivery of training programs for Nunavik SAR coordinators, intervenors, and community search coordinators
• Identifies opportunities for improvement, formulates best practices and recommend changes in SAR operations throughout Nunavik
• Works within the KRG procurement system to complete purchasing requisition and provide follow-up as required
• During an emergency event, the SAR Coordinator and SAR Resources may be dedicated to emergency response under the supervision of the Civil Security Director in his capacity as Nunavik Emergency Civil Security Committee Coordinator
• Perform other related duties as required
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• University degree in a related field. Relevant work experience also considered
• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant management experience
• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant practical experience
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Written and oral working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages: Inuktitut, English and French
• Exceptional communication and motivational skills amongst peers for creating consensus during challenging situations
• Excellent planning, analytical, organizational and leadership skills
• Be available to travel frequently
• The possibility of working remotely or teleworking will be considered
The KRG offers competitive salaries and benefits including up to eight weeks of vacation annually, a cost-of-living allowance, paid annual leave trips, group insurance as well as RRSP contributions. The place of work for this position is in Nunavik.

Salary: Min - $98,420 – Max - $135,335 annually
Benefits: Cost-of-living differential: minimum $8,500 annually
Food allowance: minimum $3,707 annually
Annual leave trips: maximum of three (3) annually
