POSITION: COORDINATOR OF TEACHER TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

DEPARTMENT: ADULT EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING

SALARY: FROM $101,612 TO $135,480, DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq is a school board offering educational services in the 14 communities of Nunavik.

FUNCTION & DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Teacher Training and Development and in cooperation with other administrators of Adult Education and Vocational Training, the Coordinator of Teacher Training is responsible for the following:

•Support the Assistant Director in the planning of all courses in the Kativik Ilisarniliriniq - McGill University and UQATtraining programs for teachers, administrators and student counselors.

•Ensure that all courses are developed and delivered in Inuktitut.

•Advise on the selection of Inuit instructors for our Kativik/McGill Programs.

•Participate in Steering committee meetings at McGill University with all aboriginal partners of the programs for FirstNations and Inuit.

•Participate in Joint Committee meetings with MEQ, McGill University and UQAT representatives.

•Supervise the work of Regional Teacher Training counselors.

•In collaboration with principals, coordinate the work of local Teacher Training counselors.

•Provide guidance to Regional Teacher Training Counselors in the policies and procedures specific to their mandate.

•Assist in the recruitment of Inuit teaching staff.

•Assist the Assistant Director with the training and support of Teacher Trainees.

•Organize, supervise and coordinate the in-service training and evaluation of teachers through the McGill program,submit all documentation for student files to the administrative assistant.

•Any other related tasks as determined by his/her supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Bachelor’s degree in Education or a graduate of the Kativik/McGill training program.

•Five (5) years relevant experience.

•Teaching diploma from the Ministry of Education of Québec.

The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the aforementioned qualification requirements if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board

REQUIREMENTS:

•Perfect command of Inuktitut and working knowledge of at least one of the other two working languages in KativikIlisarniliriniq (English and French).

•Strong and well-honed intercultural communication skills.

•Familiar with the Kativik/McGill training programs.

•Willing and ready to travel across Nunavik.

•Understand Quebec’s education system and Chapter 7 of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA).

CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

Class 00-08* as per the working conditions of managers, from $101,612 to $135,480 annually depending on qualifications and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
