POSITION

Job Title : Director of Socio-Economic and Community Development.

Reports to: The Vice-President of Economic Development.

Location: Nunavik or Montréal

Status of Employment: Permanent, Full-time

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary: Starting at $140,000 and $170,000 annually

Benefits: All marginal benefits available to Makivvik employees annually as

outlined in the Makivvik Human Resources Policy Manual such as:

Simplified Pension Plan

Vacation: starting at 20 days

Sick days: 15 days

Isolation premium: To a maximum of

$20,800

Cargo allowance: To a maximum of

$6,500

Group Insurance

Gas allowance: To a maximum of

$3,500

Travel Benefit: To a maximum of

$25,000

Housing allowance: To a maximum of

$12,000

RESPONSIBILITIES

▪ Supervises a team who manage files relating to socio-economic activities, cultural

initiatives, and community projects within Nunavik;

▪ Supervises staff at Nunavik Furs Tannery and oversees tannery operations at a high

level;

▪ Works in close collaboration with the Director of Business Development and his team;

▪ Directs the department’s effort with regards to fundraising or proposal and grant

writing to launch new initiatives;

▪ Leads recruitment and training efforts in the department, delegating tasks to his

respective staff when necessary;

▪ Prepares annual budgets and monitors spending, and reports all progress;

▪ Liaises with the external organizations, coordinating or participating in events to

promote common interests;

▪ Sits on various committees, whether it’s internal and external to Makivvik;

▪ Leads Makivvik’s efforts in planning, financing, and launching cultural trade shows and

similar events;

▪ Develops, updates, recommends and implements operating policies, procedures and

programs designed to produce efficient economic development programs for the

corporation;

▪ May help pursue new business opportunities and or to attract existing businesses to

collaborate with;

▪ May lead efforts to find reports, research, information or activity that might be relevant

to Nunavik’s Social-economy and its cultural community ;

▪ When necessary communicates with Makivvik’s subsidiaries or divisions, governmental

agencies, private enterprise, civic groups, local agencies, and the general public;

▪ Be available to travel, when requested;

▪ Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by

supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

▪ Bachelor’s degree in Management, Administration or a relevant field;

▪ Ten (10) years of management or relevant experience;

▪ Effective communication skills in at least two (2) of the three (3) languages: Inuktitut,

English and/or French;

▪ Great computer skills : Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.);

▪ High familiarity with the traditions, culture and socio-history of Inuit in Nunavik;

▪ Reliable, punctual and takes initiatives;

▪ Knowledge of leadership and management principles;

▪ Experience in project management;

▪ Knowledge of current Nunavik priorities regarding economic and social development;

▪ High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability;

▪ Strong work ethic and positive team leadership attitude.
