POSITION: EDUCATION CONSULTANT IN MATH & SCIENCE (SUPPORTING SECONDARY FRENCH TEACHERS)

SALARY: FROM $56,670 TO $105,432 DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq (KI) is a school board offering educational services in the 14 communities of Nunavik.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Second Language Curriculum Development, this position entails the responsibility of providing advice and support to the Secondary French sector in KI schools in the implementation, development and evaluation of study programs, class management and instructional materials.

FUNCTION & DUTIES:

• Support and ensure high-quality and culturally relevant education in Nunavik communities, specifically with Secondary French teachers in the subject areas of math and science;

• Support the KI competency-based approach to learning and evaluation and promote it with the school administrators, teachers and other staff members;

• Lead Professional Learning communities, training sessions and workshops with teachers, in person or virtually (using TEAMS, Zoom, etc.);

• Develop Learning and Evaluation Situations (LESs) as well as other support material that is adapted to new second language learners in the Secondary level courses;

• Participate in revision of programs that are adapted to Inuit culture, language and values, as well as a second language learning environment;

• Collaborate with team members across departments and cultures on the development of materials;

• Follow up on inventories of printing and other class material for math and science in the Secondary sector;

• Support specific projects in these teaching fields, using creative thinking and problem-solving skills;

• Carry out related tasks at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of specialization, notably education.

The School Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Legal qualification to teach in the province of Quebec;

• Experience as a teacher (teaching in Nunavik considered an asset);

• Fluency in French, as well as a working knowledge of English;

• Extensive knowledge of Secondary Math and Science concepts;

• Computer literacy (especially in Microsoft 365, incl. TEAMS and other Education Technology apps);

• Frequent travel to Nunavik communities;

• Knowledge of Inuktitut is an asset.

CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2104: from $56,670 to $105,432 annually depending on qualification and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
