Kativik Ilisarniliriniq is a school board offering educational services in the 14 communities of Nunavik.
FUNCTION & DUTIES:
Under the supervision of the Director of PSSS, the Education Consultant will focus on collaborating with post-secondary students to access academic supports and navigate post-secondary institutions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Meet with post-secondary stakeholders (potential students, employers, teachers) to build student capacity for academic success and to make recommendations to better serve the educational needs of Nunavimmiut
• Determine the resources needed to identify and develop supports for students experiencing learning difficulties focusing on strategies aimed at prevention and intervention
• Look for funding opportunities for post-secondary students
• Collaborate with school resources, partner organizations to advance the issues related to Inuit post-secondary education
• Develop recommendations, reviews policies, and provide critical feedback to sponsored students, PSSS staff, and external institutional staff regarding how to best adapt their practice for our student’s success.
• Regularly meet with students to ensure appropriate follow-up and to adjust the necessary teaching strategies
• Any other tasks deemed relevant and necessary by the Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
University Bachelor’s degree in education, administration, social sciences, or related fields.
The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualification requirements if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board
REQUIREMENTS:
• Fluency in written and spoken English, and also fluent in Inuktitut or French;
• Must be able to travel to Nunavik;
• Must be willing to work independently and be in regularly communication with various organizations and partners;
• Must be willing to work occasionally on evenings and weekends.
CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:
In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2104: from $49,456$ to $87,626 annually depending on qualification and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
