POSITION: EDUCATION CONSULTANT SPECIAL EDUCATION – SECOND LANGUAGES (2 POSITIONS)

SALARY: FROM $56,670 TO $105,432 DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq is a school board offering educational services in the 14 communities of Nunavik.

FUNCTION:

Under the Assistant Director of Complementary Services, the Education Consultant Special Education will work in close collaboration with the Inuit 

special education consultants in all areas of special education.

IN GENERAL, THIS POSITION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assess and recommend students with suspected learning problems and emotional and/or behavioural problems in school for further diagnostic 

evaluations and draft individual reports with recommendations;

• Work with school personnel to develop programs to support identified students, including those profoundly disabled, and organize services for 

them;

• Provide consultations and recommendations related to the allocation of special education technicians;

• Communicate with Health Services and Social Services when necessary concerning individual students;

• Provide training and support to the special education teachers in each school, among other things, by raising awareness of the RTI (response to 

intervention) approach among interveners and, if necessary, helping to implement it in schools;

• Assist and ensure each special education teacher has a student support schedule;

• Offer support to special education technicians;

• Ensure training of special education teachers in special education and child development;

• Conduct kindergarten screening (including kindergarten derogation);

• Ensure ongoing development of culturally appropriate diagnostic tools and remedial material;

• Organize trips and services required by Kativik Ilisarniliriniq in the area of special education outreach;

• Support teachers by informing them of the processes related to the referral of students with special needs, the development of individualized 

education plans (IEP), and the implementation of the Special Education Committee;

• Schedule and plan remote training and support on specific topics to be given to special education teachers;

• Participate and make recommendations for the referrals and modification requests from schools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in special education.

The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the aforementioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James 

Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:

• At least five (5) years of experience teaching children with special needs;

• Fluency in at least two (2) of the three (3) working languages of the Board (Inuktitut, French, English);

• Knowledge of assessment tools in English and French;

• Able to travel extensively

CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2104: from $56,670 to $105,432 

annually depending on qualification and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
