The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) is a supra municipal body having jurisdiction over the territory north of the 55th parallel in Québec and, in particular, provides technical assistance to the 14 northern villages of Nunavik.
The KRG is currently looking for a self-motivated and dynamic individual to fill the following position:
EMERGENCY GENERATOR SYSTEM MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTOR
(Permanent, on rotation)
Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Municipal Public Works Department, the Emergency Generator System Maintenance Instructor ensures the reliability and efficiency of mechanical systems in water treatment plants and pumping stations. This role involves maintaining and enhancing the performance of generators and related equipment across the 14 villages of Nunavik.
DUTIES:
• Perform maintenance work on generators at water treatment plants and pumping stations, as well as other KRG assets in the 14 villages of Nunavik.
• Troubleshoot, repair and maintain all systems and components on generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), generator controls and engine related mechanic systems.
• Conduct emergency field service repairs, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on new and used equipment at sites.
• Collaborate with the MPW project managers to develop and implement a preventive maintenance program.
• Ensure the highest level of safety, caution and adherence to regulations and standards when dealing with equipment and systems, emergencies and outages.
• Actively participate in KRG accident prevention and safety improvement activities.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of power generation including related electrical and mechanical needs, through training.
• Complete and submit all required documentation, such as service work logs, in a timely and accurate manner.
• Perform other related duties, as required, by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• Possess a professional studies certificate (DEP) in heavy equipment mechanics, electromechanics or an equivalent qualification; relevant work experience will also be considered.
• Have at least five years of relevant work in electromechanical in industrial sitting or equivalent field.
• Experience with power diesel generators, as well as hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems, is an asset.
• Computer savvy with working knowledge of Word, excel and related in-house power systems.
• Adhere to relevant health safety and environmental policies, procedures and legislation.
• Ability to read and understand machine tool drawings and specifications.
• Committed to following company safety rules, including maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work area/service vehicle.
• Be able to communicate, verbally and in writing, in at least two (2) of the following languages: Inuktitut, English, and French.
• Be willing to travel in the Nunavik region and live in hotels with shared facilities.
• Be comfortable working in different weather conditions in the cold regions.
• Be reliable, autonomous, and possess a great sense of initiative.
• Possess a valid Quebec Class 5 driver’s license or Canadian equivalent.
• Work experience north of the 55th parallel is a definite asset.
Work schedule and place of work:
• 6-3 rotation schedule: 6 weeks working in the Northern Villages (52.5 hours weekly), followed by 3 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly)
OR
• 4-2 rotation schedule: 4 weeks working in the Northern Villages (52.5 hours weekly), followed by 2 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly).
Place of employment: Nunavik
Salary: Min. $63 716 - Max. $109 329 a year (Class 10)
Benefits*: Lodging paid while working in the northern villages.
Meals and expenses paid while travelling in Nunavik.

Vacation: 20 days/year
Statutory Holidays: 19 days including 10 during Christmas holidays.
