Northern Delights is seeking a motivated, organized, and community-minded individual to support the operation of our herbal tea collection and commercial dehydrators. This role is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with others, is interested in traditional plants and foods, and wants to be part of a growing community-based project.

Key Responsibilities

Herb Collection

  • Help receive freshly harvested herbs from local participants
  • Assist in inspecting bags for clean leaves (no rocks, soil, or contaminants)
  • Weigh and record incoming plants using a log sheet
  • Help track harvesters and complete payment records
  • Keep the working area clean and well-organized

Community Engagement

  • Help post announcements on community boards, radio, and Facebook about collection
  • days and dehydrator availability
  • Answer questions from harvesters and community members about the program

Dehydrator Use & Cleaning

  • Learn how to operate and clean the commercial dehydrators
  • Assist with drying the herbs correctly and safely according to the plant type
  • Monitor dehydration times and ensure proper labeling and separation of plant types
  • Clean and sanitize the workspace daily

Record Keeping & Reports

  • Help complete daily or weekly logs and summaries for the Harvest Manager
  • Take photos of work areas and finished products as needed
  • Support in reporting total amounts collected and dried

Qualifications

  • Reliable and willing to learn
  • Comfortable using basic tools like a scale and thermometer
  • Can use a phone camera, email, and spreadsheets (or willing to learn)
  • Good communication skills in Inuktitut and/or English/French
  • Friendly, respectful, and good with people
  • Interest in local plants, traditional foods, or food preparation is an asset
  • Previous experience in a community program, kitchen, or similar environment is helpful, but not required
