INUIT COMMUNICATION OFFICER
PERMANENT POSITION POSITION TO FILL 1 CODE DIR25-01
LOCATION : NUNAVIK DEADLINE TO APPLY: MARCH 11TH 2025
SCHEDULE: To be determined. The role requires flexible, including travel to Inuit communities, participation in various
meetings, and regular presence at both the Montreal office and Expo camp.
Reporting line: Reports to the General Manager, with support from the Senior Strategy Advisor, Inuit Competencies, and the Environment Director.
ROLE SUMMARY
The selected candidate will oversee the implementation of the Nunavik Nickel Agreement (IBA) and develop communication and community
engagement strategies to foster harmonious relationships between the mine, local communities, and stakeholders. This role is vital in promoting the
company's mission, values, and activities while respecting the needs and expectations of Inuit stakeholders.
RESPONSABILITIES
1. Communication Strategy
• Collaborate with internal departments to develop and execute a 12-month Communication Plan to enhance outreach and
engagement.
• Assist in creating and delivering clear, impactful communication materials.
• Build and maintain relationships with local media outlets.
• Promote corporate social responsibility and sustainable development initiatives within Inuit communities.
2. Community Relations and Social Engagement
• Act as the primary point of contact for all communications with Inuit stakeholders.
• Plan, organize and facilitate public consultations, community meetings, and informational activities.
• Coordinate community visits and meetings to engage with local organizations and residents.
• Foster open dialogue and maintain strong relationships with local communities and stakeholders
• Collaborate with local leaders to identify and address community needs and expectations.
3. Internal Support
• Provide guidance to management on the application and interpretation of the Nunavik Nickel IBA.
• Conduct field follow-ups to ensure effective implementation of the agreement provisions.
• Coordinate training activities to increase awareness of IBA obligations.
• Collaborate with contractors to ensure alignment with the company’s Inuit employment obligations.
• Provide accurate, timely information to stakeholders and produce detailed reports on activities.
• Support the HR Department in managing Inuit employment matters.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the General Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or a relevant qualification.
• Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in the mining industry or remote environments.
• Strong knowledge of the MS Office Suite.
• Experience in an administrative role.
• In-depth knowledge of Nunavik communities, Inuit culture, the administration of Nunavik organizations, and government agencies.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with all parties involved.
• Ability to communicate in at least two of the following languages: Inuktitut, English, or French (trilingual is an asset).
