Life Coach/Mentor
Qajaq Network is presently looking to hire a full-time worker in Kuujjuaq. The candidates will be called upon to participate in Qajaq Networks program: Our Young Men, Our Connection as Life Coaches. The chosen candidate will assume a key welcoming role, supporting and follow-up with ex-detainees and men in situation of vulnerability.
The candidate will be under the supervision of our office located in Kuujjuaq. The candidate must be willing to learn effective helping skills, and be trained in methods of intervention with clients. Assistance will be expected in situations of crisis, whether family, life crisis and other destabilizing situations such as detention, re-integration after detention, loss of job etc.
- The position requires strength of character, honesty, strong will and open-mindedness.
- The intervenor will have to be strict but friendly and reassuring with great interpersonal skills.
- Well organized, able to conduct thorough evaluation interviews with clients and write reports.
- Must comply with ethics of confidentiality.
- Must be willing and ready to intervene when and where needed: may be called upon to travel to other communities.
- Should be able to link up with Justice Committee members, Elders, Social Workers, Lawyers, Probation Officers etc.
- Should be able to organize On-The -Land excursions.
Must be fluent in Inuktitut. Knowledge of English or French would be an asset. Knowledge of traditional Inuit culture and social development concerns would provide important assets to the candidate.
