The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supra municipal body with jurisdiction over the territory located north of the 55th parallel, is now looking for a self-motivated and dynamic individual interested in joining the KRG to work in the capacity of:

The Environment Section of the Renewable Resources, Environment, Lands and Parks department of the KRG is responsible for the implementation of a metal recycling project. The work is performed in collaboration with an external consultant firm who will provide some expertise and equipment and with the municipal equipment and employees under the supervision of a qualified General Foreman. For the purpose of fulfilling this responsibility, the KRG is currently looking for a person to fill the following position:

METAL RECYCLING PROJECT FOREMAN

(Temporary 5 months – June to October)

Reporting to the Assistant-Director of the Renewable Resources, Environment, Lands and Parks department, and working in collaboration with the Project Manager Environment, the Metal Recycling Project Foreman’s duties and responsibilities will include, without being limited to:

  • Ensure execution of project in accordance with the plans, specifications and guidelines as required by the Project Manager;
  • Assist the Northern Village in planning, executing and completing this project;
  • In collaboration with the municipal manager, schedule and ensure daily tasks are completed;
  • Provide daily progress reports to the Project Manager that include proposal to practical solutions to problems that may arise;
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the Project Manager or the Department Assistant-Director.

Summary of the specific project:

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) has developed a Residual Materials Management Plan (RMMP) that came into effect in July 2015 and updated in 2021 and need to implement a project to ensure the transportation and recovery of accumulated metals.

Under this project, accumulated metals (end-of-life vehicles, appliances, construction metal, etc.) will be prepared and, when required, decontaminated. The metal will then be roughly sorted, baled and transported by boat to a processing center in the south of the province. Work in the Northern Villages will be completed between 2022 and 2025.

The selected candidate must:

  • Possess a civil engineering or environmental technician diploma or a technical background combined with work experience and relevant achievements could be considered as an equivalent;
  • Possess at least five (5) years of relevant experience;
  • Be able to read plans and specifications;
  • Be able to operate heavy equipment, considered an asset;
  • Written and oral working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages: Inuktitut, English and French;
  • Have a strong ability to explain various tasks and concepts in simple terms;
  • Be reliable, show adaptability and demonstrate ability to work efficiently with limited supervision;
  • Have strong team work and relationship management competencies;
  • Have working knowledge of computer software applications, mainly Microsoft Office (is considered an asset);
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Place of work: The selected candidate will be based in one of Nunavik’s 14 communities for the duration of the contract but must be willing to travel frequently throughout the region.

Location: Nunavik

Salary: Min. $50,950 – Max. $87,221 per year based on 1 820 hours. (Class 9)

Other benefits: Room and board when traveling in other communities paid by the Employer, group insurance, etc.
