The Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services (NRBHSS), incorporated under the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement 

(section 15) as well as the Act respecting health services and social services, covers the entire territory located north of the 55th parallel. 

Its mission is to adapt health and social services programs to the population’s needs and the region’s realities and to ensure efficient organization of the resources made available to the Nunavik region.

DEPARTMENT AND SERVICE: PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT, SERVICE # 40008 INFECT DIS PREV CONT 

DESCRIPTION 

Under the authority of the infectious diseases coordinator and as part of the infectious diseases team of the Public Health Department, the incumbent, guided by the assistant clinical nurse responsible for the team, contributes to the development of the local public health agents (PHA) program operating in the region’s two health centres, particularly in the fight against tuberculosis and other infectious diseases. 

The Kanniq team supports the professionalization, integration and mentoring of PHAs in order to strengthen a culturally safe public health rooted in Inuit values, thereby promoting the well-being and self-determination of Nunavimmiut.  

Your responsibilities also include: 

• Support the coordination of the development, implementation and monitoring of the public health agents (PHA) program activities; 

• Support the development and rollout of interim training for PHAs and contribute to the development of their certified training; 

• Contribute to the professionalization of the PHA role by developing tools, processes, guides and support mechanisms; 

• Act as liaison with the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS), the health centres and other program partners; 

• Prepare reports, strategic documents, presentations, accountability reports and other deliverables, and contribute to the administrative and budgetary monitoring of the program; 

• Contribute to the evaluation, continuous improvement and structuring of the program in order to support its sustainability; 

• Act as a resource person and source of expertise for health centre stakeholders, regional partners and members of the public health team, and contribute to the activities of the Kanniq team (including the regional tuberculosis committee), as well as to other infectious disease initiatives, as needed. 

REQUIREMENTS 

• For candidates who are beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement, a relevant combination of education and experience may be considered; 

• Must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline; 

• Must demonstrate excellent oral and written command of at least two of the three languages used in Nunavik; 

• A master’s degree in public health is considered an asset; 

• Knowledge of tuberculosis is considered an asset. 

• Excellent oral and written command of at least two of the three languages used in Nunavik (Inuktitut, English, French). 

SKILLS AND DESIRED PROFILE 

• Demonstrated sense of cultural safety, with the ability to adapt one’s interactions to the realities of Nunavimmiut;  

• Good knowledge of health equity and reconciliation principles; knowledge of the social and cultural issues and realities of Nunavik (experience in a northern region or Indigenous context is an asset); 

• Solid experience in project management, planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation and in program development, implementation and evaluation; 

• Professional autonomy, rigour and availability to travel to Nunavik communities; 

• Mobilizing leadership and excellent communication skills; comfort working in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment; 

• Good command of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), MS Teams, SharePoint and project management platforms; 

• Ability and comfort to work remotely, with travel to Nunavik as well as to the Québec City or Kuujjuaq office. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

• Home base: position based primarily in Kuujjuaq. Remote work may be considered, with stays in Nunavik communities and occasional travel to the Quebec City and Kuujjuaq offices; 

• Please note that interviews will potentially be conducted during the weeks of October 5 or October 12, 2026. 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

• Full-time temporary assignment of three (3) years, 35 hours per week, with the possibility of extension; 

• Day shift; 

• Salary according to MSSS conditions and the candidate’s qualifications ($31.03/hr to $54.98/hr). 

Northern benefits: Employees who settle in Nunavik may be eligible for various premiums, including a retention premium, a remoteness premium and a cost-of-living premium. 

For those hired more than 50 km from Kuujjuaq, low-cost housing is provided, along with reimbursement of moving and storage costs. In addition, annual personal trips from Kuujjuaq to the point of hire are included, as well as other benefits.
