POSITION
Job Title: Research Advisor
Reports to: The Assistant Director in the Environment, Wildlife and Research Department
Location: Kuujjuaq or Montréal or Quebec
Status of Employment: Temporary – Two (2) year contract

SALARY
Salary: Between $85,000 and $110,000 annually
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and manage detailed research project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation, in support of the Qanittaq initiative and in alignment with Makivvik’s objectives and funding requirements.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Makivvik, external researchers, and Nunavik communities, ensuring clear, consistent, and culturally appropriate communication.
- Facilitate the integration of Inuit Knowledge (IK) into research design, implementation, and interpretation.
- Coordinate and organize community meetings, workshops, and information sessions to share research objectives, progress, and results, and to gather community feedback.
- Prepare high-quality progress reports, briefing notes, final reports, and presentations for DEWR management, Makivvik executives, and funding agencies.
- Provide scientific expertise and guidance across multiple research projects to support policy development and strengthen DEWR’s research capacity.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Nunavik communities, regional organizations, and provincial and federal government stakeholders.
- Ensure research activities comply with applicable legal, regulatory, and funding requirements.
- Be available to travel, as requested.
- Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in biology, environmental science, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of demonstrated experience managing wildlife and environmental research projects.
- Experience working in Nunavik or with Indigenous communities is considered a strong asset.
- Written and oral proficiency in English and French; proficiency in Inuktitut is strongly encouraged.
- Excellent writing, analytical, and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex files and multiple priorities.
- Working knowledge of relevant jurisprudence related to environmental and wildlife research.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with Inuit Knowledge and its application in research contexts is an asset.
- Security clearance is required.
