FULL-TIME YOUTH CENTER ANIMATOR
AKULIVIK
Under the authority of the Youth Coordinator, the Part-Time Youth Animator will organize activities for the youth of Akulivik aged 5 to 19. They will be members of the local youth center staff and under the supervision of the Youth Coordinator; they will offer a variety of activities: cultural, leisure, prevention, discussions, music, arts & craft, games, etc. Training on all the aspects of their tasks will be provided by the Suilaaqivik resources or by the Youth Coordinator.
TASKS
He or she has to:
• Assure a presence in the youth center according to a schedule determined with other workers.
• Participate to team meetings when asked by the Youth Coordinator, in order to organize daily and weekly activities for the youth or special events.
• Assure security of the youth by having them respect the rules (applying of consequences)
• Organize special activities for youth (movie night, pool tournament, cooking activities, etc…)
• Write daily reports on activities held in the youth center and/or in the village to keep the youth coordinator informed.
• Give suggestions to the coordinator to improve the functioning of the youth center (suggestions of activities, purchasing of equipment, on security, etc.)
• Deal with youth having behaviour problems.
• Have a helping relationship with youth (help them for activities and give them support when they need help).
• Organize all the material to be used for the activities of the day or the night.
• Keep the youth center clean.
• Lock the door(s) and close the windows before leaving the youth center.
• Tell the youth coordinator about any problems that happened during work.
• Encourage participation of adults and elders in some of the activities organized by the youth center.
• Do any tasks asked by the youth coordinator.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The part-time Youth Center Animator will have to work 35 hours a week on a flexible schedule.
• The NYHA salary scale for part-time Youth Center Animators starts at $24.15/hour or a fixed hourly rate according to the experience the candidate has with youth in a job with similar responsibilities.
• According to the NYHA working conditions, each permanent employee has a six months (910 hours) probation period after which he/she is entitled to the same benefits of the NYHA regional employees, which includes travel & cargo benefits, health care, Pension Plan and statutory holidays, vacations and special leaves.
REQUIREMENTS
• Candidates must be aged from 16 to 30, younger candidates can be hired if particularly mature.
• Be very responsible, organized and known as a good animator.
• Has experience in animation of activities or meetings with the youth.
• Experience of collaboration with different organizations.
• Secondary III. Exceptional experience, knowledge and abilities could compensate for education.
• Animation abilities must be strong.
