YOUTH CENTER FULL-TIME ANIMATOR AND TEAM LEADER POSITION AVAILABLE

This is not a 9 am to 5 pm job

Under the authority of the Youth Center Coordinator, the Youth Center Animator will organize activities for the youth of Inukjuak aged from 5 to 19 years old. She/he will be member of the local youth center staff and, under the supervision of the Youth Center Coordinator, she/he will offer a variety of activities: cultural, leisure, prevention, games, music, arts & craft, discussions, etc.). She/he will receive training and supervision from Coordinator and from NYHA permanent resource on all aspects of her/his tasks.

       TASKS

The Animator has to:

•     Assure a presence at the youth center according to a schedule determined with other workers and approved by the Director General;

•     Participate to team meetings when asked by the coordinator, in order to organize daily and weekly activities for the clientele or special event;

•     Assure security of the youth by having them respect the rules (applying consequences);

•     Organize special activities for youth (movie night, pool tournament, cooking activities, outdoor activities);

•     Write daily reports on activities held in the youth center and/or in the village to keep the coordinator informed;

•     Give suggestions to the coordinator to improve the functioning of the youth center (suggestions of activities, purchasing of equipment, security, etc.);

•     Deal with youth having behaviour problems;

•    Have a helping relationship with youth (help them for activities and give them support when they need help);

•     Organize all the material to be used for the activities of the day or the night;

•    Keep the youth center clean;

•     Lock the doors and close the windows before leaving the youth center;

•     Tell the youth coordinator about any problems that happened during work time;

•     Encourage participation of adults and elders in some of the activities organized by the youth;

•     Do any tasks requested by the youth coordinator.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The full-time Youth Center Animator will have to work between 30 and 35 hours a week on a flexible schedule.

The NYHA salary scale for full-time Youth Center Animator starts at 24.15$/hour up to 36.25$/hour according to the experience the candidate has with youth in a job with similar responsibilities.

According to NYHA working conditions, each permanent employee has a six (6) months’ probation period, after which she/he will be entitled to benefits such as sick/special leave and travel benefits.

REQUIREMENTS

•     Candidates must be aged from 16 to 30 (for full-time Animators). youngers part-time animators can be hired if particularly mature;

•     Be very responsible, organized and known as a good animator;

•    Has experience in animation of activities or meetings with the youth;

•     Experience of collaboration with different organizations;

•     Secondary III. Exceptional experience, knowledge and abilities could compensate for education;

•     Animation abilities must be very strong.
